Climate Resilience Offsets

Impact investing delivering measurable impact

Tax-deductible financial offsets that help fund climate resilience projects with immediate impact, measurable results, and lasting benefits.

If you engage in an activity that contributes to climate change, either as a company or a consumer, now you can contribute a tax-deductible financial offset to help cover the costs of severe weather driven by climate change.

During 2023 there were 63 severe weather events around the globe all driven by climate change that caused more than one billion dollars in damage. The Economist Magazine predicts homeowners will face US$25 trillion dollars in damage from severe weather events over the next 25 years.  As communities and property owners look ahead they are now faced with ongoing additional costs of repair or prevention of damage from future severe storms.

Climate Resilience Offsets is a non-profit entity that lets corporations and consumers make tax-deductible donations to help offset the costs of climate resilience spending. Funds are allocated across three areas, Community Grants, Disbursement Partnerships, and Innovation Installations.

The first question we ask of every grant request is: what is the financial impact of this project and how will you measure it?

Community Grants

Goal: Augment community budgets stressed by new spending required to respond to climate change.

Funds for approved resilience projects that are shovel-ready meet the most up-to-date codes and methods and are projected to be effective for twenty-five years.

Disbursement Partners

Goal: Partner with established lenders to help property owners finance climate resilience upgrades or repairs

CRF will make grants to non-profit or for-profit entities that can streamline and broaden the fund disbursement process for direct spending on approved climate resilience investments.  Spending must be directed for projects such as home improvements for low and middle-income properties in at-risk areas, or for immediate repair of a property damaged by a severe weather event where government assistance and private insurance are insufficient or not available.

The CRF does not provide offset grants directly to property owners, and all lenders must require climate resilience audits.

Innovation Installation

Goal: Get climate resilience innovations field-tested

CRF will leverage the technology and business plan due diligence of top-tier accelerator programs to find startups ready to build prototypes or install their first market trials of climate resilience innovations. Accelerators or other private investors must provide matching funds to cover company operations.

The CRF does not provide offset grants for startup operations, software or service companies, or manufacturing scaling.
